More Than a Massage Therapist:
Ortho-Bionomy® Offers Lasting Relief

By Elizabeth Mixon Summers - Offering Ortho-Bionomy® in Portland, Oregon It was the pain that initially introduced me to Ortho-Bionomy®. Thank Goodness! Doctors and surgeons were advising me to participate in a third Lamenectomy, to which I delivered an absolute "No." Eight OB sessions later, my life was changed. Most of my pain was gone, and thus launched my journey into OB-land! Each time I began to compose this essay, the meaning of Ortho-Bionomy® would continue to change, so I would press the pause button and "wait" until I could decisively express its impact on my life. It didn't take me long to figure out that the "waiting" would never end, for Ortho-Bionomy® was forever changing and evolving in me. It is difficult for me to separate the influence and impact that Ortho-Bionomy® has had on my personal and professional life, for they have become so intertwined. In the beginning, it was about helping me. Then it became important to help others. Now I discover there is little if no difference between these two. I change myself, I change everything around me. With this in mind, I find myself increasingly more conscious of my patterns in thought and action. Am I engaging in ease or resistance? What kind of relationship am I having with myself? Ortho-Bionomy® heartens me to examine, evaluate, and release pre conceived notions and beliefs in and around the world in which I reside. It fosters self- reliance, self-recognition, release, relief, and re-organization-- in body, mind and spirit, and it compels me to share these principles with others. I watch myself now, with a different eye, with a different sense of "I", with a different sense. When I remember to monitor my movements -emotionally, physically, mentally, and auricly, I am also reminded I have the authority to shift any and all of these aspects. With this in mind, I can transform what is right in front of me, as well as something a universe away. I become increasingly aware that I cannot be in this world without affecting it, and being affected by it. How I act, think, present, and perceive, has a ripple effect that is vast and immeasurable. When sharing Ortho-Bionomy® in my Portland, Oregon practice, I find it serves as a vehicle for my self-expression, a dance of self-exploration, and a place where I can dream and imagine endless possibilities. It has become a place of refuge, where I connect with myself and others in a most remarkable way. Its principles whisper reminders in how to be full of delight, wonder, and joy. It is a place where I can play, create, and bask in the ever present spirit of fellowship. Reminiscent of a magnificent Zen Koan, Ortho-Bionomy® provides more questions than answers. It summons me to re-examine such ideas as order and chaos, balance and homeostasis. Sometimes I wonder if I am really "helping" anyone at all: I am present, with an OTHER. I look, I touch, I lift, and I observe change. Sometimes I don't even touch. I just "look" and something happens. Sometimes I am not even looking. I am just Being, and through Being, something emerges, transforms—within them, within me, and perhaps, worlds beyond my consideration.
